Here is an introduction to Los Angeles City College Dental Technology program. Learn what dental technology is, what it is like to be a student in this program, and some of the awesome opportunities this hidden gem has to offer!

Hi! Thanks for checking out my page. This blog will cover what the day-to-day life is like of a LACC Dental Technology student!

So first of all, what exactly is dental technology?

Science is defined as “a system or method reconciling practical ends with scientific laws”.

Art is defined as “the conscious use of skill and creative imagination especially in the production of aesthetic objects.”

The American Dental Association (ADA) defines Dental Laboratory Technology as, “…both a science and an art.” This is absolutely the truth.

In this field, both are combined to give patients the best possible functional and aesthetic restorations.

We are responsible for customizing each and every patient’s restoration for his/her unique needs. Everyone has different tooth anatomy, which means every tooth in every person’s mouth is unique. Each tooth is essentially like a fingerprint!

One of the great things about this field is that there are also a variety of specialties; six (6) in total:

  • Complete Dentures
  • Partial Dentures
  • Crown & Bridge
  • Ceramics
  • Orthodontics
  • Implants

In the upcoming weeks, I’ll go into detail about what each of these specialties entail, as well as how this program approaches teaching students the skills needed to prepare them for real world applications!

This program truly focuses on preparing students for employment immediately upon graduation. On your first day of class, you won’t just be listening to a lecture, professors will be giving hands on demos and have you pouring up models!

I hope you will find Dental Technology as interesting as I do. As for now, I’ll leave you with an image of my first model being poured up on day one of this semester. See you soon!
