Kristina Raymond

Kristina RaymondMetro-Detroit native Ms. Raymond is a drummer/percussionist based in Los Angeles, CA. She completed her masters degree in jazz studies from California Institute of the Arts in 2010. She studied and performed with Joe La Barbera, Darek Oles, David Roitstein, Larry Koonse, Vinny Gollia, Leo Wadada Smith, and Charlie Haden at Calarts, as well as with Ghanaian Ewe drumming master Alfred Ladzekpo. Known for her subtle artistry and emotive accompaniment, she maintains an active performing and touring calendar. Her ability to express an array of styles is illustrated by sharing the bandstand with a wide range of artists including Bobby Bradford, Moon Zappa, Ann Patterson’s Maiden Voyage, Bob Sheppard, Ingrid Jensen, Matt Otto, Art Lande, and many more. In 2007, she was chosen as the drummer for the prestigious International Association of Jazz Educator’s “Sisters in Jazz” Ensemble. With this group, she toured the US and Central America playing at various festivals including the MaryLou Williams Jazz Festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in music from The University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music in double performance - classical percussion and jazz studies drum set. There, she studied with Stan Kenton drummer John Von Ohlen as well as the members of Percussion Group Cincinnati.
