Assessment Program Description

The Assessment Office schedules and administers placement tests for new non-exempt students, continuing students who are eligible for re-assessment, and returning students who need to retake the placement test for course placement into ESL courses.

You will lose your place in priority enrollment if you do not participate in orientation, assessment, and educational planning services.

View the Assessment Calendar for available test dates.

Please note the following changes under AB 705:

For students enrolling in math and/or English in Fall 2019 (but also for Summer 2019), assessment testing will no longer be required for students to be placed into English and Math courses. All students are eligible to enroll in transfer level math and English with varying levels of support recommended based on high school GPA, educational goal, and other information.  Assessment testing into English as a Second Language (ESL) courses will continue for students who are not native speakers of English and who have not graduated from an American high school.

For students enrolling in math and/or English for Spring 2019, an assessment and course placement process (see hours below and assessment calendar) will be happening from February 4th-February 14th (English and ESL) and February 4th-February 14th (Math).  No English/Math assessment test will be provided after this date. ESL test will then resume February 20th. AB 705 will provide a new placement process for English and Math course placement and will be implemented soon.  You can learn more about AB 705 and course placement at       Students are encouraged to logon to their Student Portal and look for the English and Math Placement notification under their To-Do Checklist. By submitting the questionnaire early, students will receive their new English and math placement level by next week granting them ample time to plan for their summer and fall 2019 coursework.
