The Visual & Media Arts Visiting Artist Lecture Series

6pm-7:30pm

Mark Allen is an artist and curator based in Los Angeles. Between 2003 and 2018 he was the executive director of Machine Project, a non-profit art space which produced over 2000 events in 15 years, including operas for dogs, vacations for plants, and concerts for dentists, as well as shows with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Hammer Museum at UCLA, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, the Walker Museum in Minneapolis and the Tang Teaching Museum in Saratoga Springs, New York. In this talk Mr Allen will present Machine's most fascinating successes, mysterious failures, and what it takes to start, run and close an experimental art space in Los Angeles.
