Dear Student,

President Mary GallagherCongratulations! On behalf of the entire Los Angeles City College community (LACC), I invite you to join us in celebrating the achievements of the Class of 2022, on Tuesday, June 7th at 5 pm at the Greek Theatre.

Our exciting ceremony at the Greek allows us all to salute your academic excellence and personal achievement. This is the time of year of great celebration for you, the faculty, staff, family, and friends. We are united by a shared sense of pride through your achievement.

Commencement marks the end of your time as an LACC student and the first day of your life as LACC alumni. I am very proud to welcome you to LACC’s alumni family. I invite you to remain engaged with the college and the Alumni Association.

This newsletter will provide you with important information needed to plan for this very important event.

Parking

Parking will be FREE for all students and their families. Students driving alone should park in lot A. Students driving with their guests and families should park in the family, lot and then report to graduate check-in line at the south end of the Greek entrance. Look for directional signage when you arrive. 

Graduation Ticket Pick Up

If you RSVPed for the ceremony, but have not pcked up your ticket, please report to the Will Call booth near the entrance of the Greek Theater to pick up your tickets. No students and guests of students who have not RSVPed will be allowed into the event. If you do not have a ticket, you will not be admitted to the ceremony.

Live Stream of Ceremony

The 2022 Commencement for Los Angeles City College is tomorrow, June 7, 2022. We are excited to share that Dr. Jill Biden, the First Lady of the United States, will be our keynote speaker. We want to give you an opportunity to hear from our amazing speakers and support your students as they walk the Commencement stage.

We have set up a live stream on our YouTube page for those who cannot join us in person tomorrow. So please be sure to cheer on your students from behind the screen.

The live stream will begin at 4:30 pm with a performance from our amazing Music students. We will then begin the ceremony at 5:00 pm. Again, we encourage you to join us as we celebrate our graduating students from the Classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022.

Acknowledgment of Honor Students

We are proud to recognize the academic achievement of our honor graduates. Your name will be in our graduation program booklet. You will receive a gold honor cord to wear during the Commencement Ceremony. The gold honor cord is a gift from the Associated Student Government and may be picked up from the LACC Bookstore.

Summa Cum Laude

A distinction awarded to students who graduate with a 3.9 or better scholastic average in coursework taken in the LA Community College District.

Magna Cum Laude

A distinction awarded to students who graduated with a 3.7 or better scholastic average in coursework taken in the LA Community College District.

Cum Laude

A distinction awarded to students who graduate with a 3.5 or better scholastic average in coursework taken in the LA Community College District.

Participation Eligibility

Students are eligible to participate in graduation if they have filed for graduation and successfully completed the requirements for an Associate in Arts Degree, Associate in Science Degree or an ADT. Degree conferral is contingent upon final grades from the Fall 2021 semester for December graduates and from the Spring 2022 semester for June graduates. Admissions and Records will process final evaluations after all Spring 2022 grades are posted and processed within the LACCD. If you are not sure if you have completed the graduation requirements, please check in with the LACC Academic Counseling Dept. 

Graduates whose degrees were conferred in the graduating class of 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 are invited to participate in Commencement ceremonies.

List of 2022 Graduation Candidates

Please email admissions@lacitycollege.edu for any questions about the list. Names are called for all candidates who RSVP and show up to the ceremony in the cap and gown. Printed program is not required to have your name called. 

Candidates must RSVP to Participate

All 2020, 2021, 2022 graduates are required to RSVP to participate in Commencement. The new RSVP link was sent out to graduation candidates on Friday, May 20, 2022. If you did not receive the link, please contact admissions@lacitycollege.edu so we can send it to you. 

Keep an eye on this website for the most recent updates. Add admissions@lacitycollege.edu to your email "safe senders" list to make sure you received our emailed updates. Check your junk or spam mail folder for emails that may have not reached your inbox. 

Space and tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline to RSVP for Commencement is May 30th, 2022. Graduates who RSVP must visit Admissions in person with photo ID from Tuesday, May 24th to Tuesday, May 31st to pick up their GRADUATE ticket and their GUEST tickets. Tickets not picked up by May 31st will be forfeited. Graduates will not be able to participate in Commencement if they do not RSVP and have a ticket.

We also invite you to participate in the LGBTQIA+, Mi Gente, and Black Graduation ceremonies. See details below. 

Guests

As of May 20, 2022, graduates will be allowed a maximum of 4 guests tickets. For safety and security, requests for more tickets will not be honored. Every guest must have a ticket. Tickets will have assigned seating. Please arrive early for choice parking. No balloons maybe brought into the Greek Theatre. Guests must stay in their seats throughout the ceremony, no moving into aisles to photograph the event. Guests in wheelchairs will be accommodated by the LACC Commencement Marshals

Graduation Rehearsals

One rehearsal will be held on campus to prepare candidates for graduation to participate in the Commencement Ceremony: Tuesday, May 10th from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Location: Student Union (SU) 3rd floor Multipurpose Room. RSVP not required. 

Graduation Regalia

Caps and Gowns are available for purchase in the LACC Bookstore in the Student Union for $38.95 plus tax. Candidates must wear the college black cap and gown to participate in the graduation exercises.

Nursing Program graduates will wear a white sash and all other graduates may purchase an optional souvenir sash for $39.95 plus tax (sashes available at the LACC Bookstore). All graduation regalia are on sale now at the LACC Bookstore.

Souvenirs and gifts will be available for purchase at the Greek Theater. Cash will be required for all purchases. 

Covid-19 Protocols

All graduates and their guests must complete the Cleared4 Covid-19 screening survey. Anticipate filling out the Cleared4 survey just as you would if you were entering campus. There will be staff at the Cleared4 booth to assist guests and students in filling out their survey. Guests will use the Visitor Self-Check Survey. 

Assembly

The graduation ceremony will begin with the processional at 5:00 pm. Students should begin to assemble no later than 4:00 pm. Arrive at the Greek Theatre in your cap and gown. You will be directed to the assembly location. Procession Marshals will circulate through the line and distribute name cards.

Commencement Ceremony

Commencement will be in the GREEK THEATRE located in Griffith Park at:

Students with Disabilities

Students with disabilities who require assistance during the commencement ceremony and/or walking to the stage should contact the Office of Special Services no later than Tuesday, May 31. A graduation marshal will be made available to assist you. The phone number is (323) 953-4000, ext. 2285. Sign Language interpreters will be available at the ceremony.

Announcements and Diploma Frames

Announcements and Diploma Frames may be purchased in the LACC College Store.

Announcements come in 5 pack $11.99 or 10 pack $19.29. Elegant engraved LACC Graduation diploma frames are available starting at $85.00 - $135.00. Samples are on display in the store.

Class Rings

Rings for Class of 2022 are available to order through the LACC Bookstore in the Student Union. Brochures will be available at the ceremony. 

Diplomas

Diplomas will be available in September 2022.

Graduation Photographs at the Commencement Ceremony:

Ultimate Exposures will be the official photographer at the graduation ceremony. They will be photographing each student two-three times as you receive your diploma on commencement day. You will be given a name card to complete at the ceremony to provide the photographer with your current email and mailing address. They will forward you complimentary proofs of your photos. You can expect the proofs within one week of the ceremony. You are under no obligation to purchase these photos. Photographs are available starting at $9.00 for a 5x7 photo. 12th Annual Black Graduation Celebration on May 24, 2022!

It's that time of year again!  The Los Angeles Community College District African American Outreach Initiative program (LACCD-AAOI) is proud to announce the 12th Annual Black Graduation Celebration on May 24, 2022 at First AME Church of Los Angeles, 2270 South Harvard Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90018.
