Biographical Statement:

Dr. Blake is a Professor of Music and Humanities at LACC teaching Music Appreciation, Commercial music techniques, MIDI, advanced electronic music and applied music students. His degrees are as follows: PhD. UCLA; MM UCLA; BA and a BM University of Redlands; Hoch Schule fur Musik, Frankfurt, Germany; Cal Arts, and the San Francisco Conservatory. He has taught at Los Angeles City College, Southwest College, Instructional Television, Occidental College, CALTECH, Long Beach City College, UCLA, and UC Irvine. He has worked as a professional freelance musician playing: oboe, clarinet, flute, English horn, saxophone, oboe d’amore and synthesizer. He was in the orchestra of the Laguna Beach Festival of Art: LA Bach Festival, and played for movie scores, recordings, local orchestras, chamber groups and is the founder of M.O.S.A.I.C. ( Musicians Offering Service to AIDS in California).

He has been awarded grants from the following: US Dept. of Education Title V Interdisciplinary Teaching Grant; US Dept. of Education VATEA Grant in Music Video Production; Fund for Instructional Improvement State of California- Grant in Multi-Media Music Video; NABET Educational Program in Media and Education; City of Los Angeles Telecommunications grant in Video Production; City of Los Angeles Artist in the Community 1993-95; Chancellor’s Research Grant UCLA; Pacific Composers Composition Award, COTA Orchestra; Los Angeles Dept. of Cultural Affairs – Sundays at Four, compositions performed, and as an artist.

He has worked with the community on the K-Day Performing Arts Program; Inner City Mixed Media Arts Program; State Disabled Recruitment Program; F.A.R. Foundation for Art Resources award grantor; Pacific Composers founding member; LA Middle School Programs in Arts; and the Black Media Coalition; education liaisons for NAMM and SMPTE.

Personal Statement:

Dr. Blake is an artist, composer, musician, teacher and is also certified in Pilates.
