The LACC Online Academy

Success in the Academy & FAQ

The requirements for entering the program are as follows:

  • You have a high school diploma or GED
  • You are interested in earning an Associate Degree in Business or Psychology
  • You have ready access to a computer with a web cam, internet access, and the ability to reliably stream live video
  • You have an overall high school GPA of 2.6 or higher OR at least two years of full-time employment
  • You currently live or reside in the state of California*
*Veterans who are California residents, and active duty military deployed from a California base are also eligible.

The following factors will increase your likelihood of success in the program:

  • You are comfortable reading, communicating, and submitting work online.
Take some time to go through the QUEST Online Learning modules to see if your computer skills are at the appropriate level for this program and to learn more about how Canvas, our course management system, works.
  • You are self-disciplined and able to stay on task with minimal oversight.
The LACC Online Academy is a full-time curriculum, and you can expect to spend at least twenty (20) hours on course work per week.
  • Your reading and writing skills are at a college level.
General course work in English, Communication Studies, and Philosophy will include papers and essay examinations. Knowledge of proper English grammar, structure, and organization will be expected.
  • You completed an algebra class in high school or college.
The business and psychology degrees include a statistics class. In addition, several of the important business courses, specifically economics and accounting, require a strong math foundation. We will support you in improving your math skills through tutoring and access to online assessments and opportunities to refresh and practice your skills. The first math class doesn’t start until your second semester, so there is plenty of time for you to get prepared.
  • You had a cumulative high school GPA or 3.0 or higher.
This is an intensive program that requires a commitment to studying and independent learning. Demonstrated success in prior schooling is one indication of likely success in college, although certainly not the only one!!
  • You have earned fewer than 10 college credits in the courses required for this degree.
This program is designed for a cohort, with all students taking their classes together. If you have successfully completed fewer than 3 of the program courses, you may still be eligible to participate.
