Library Circulation Policies
Only currently enrolled Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) students and currently employed faculty and staff members are eligible to borrow materials from the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library.
The Library does not issue library cards; to borrow library materials you need to present your LACC Cub ID card or Student ID from any of the LACCD nine campuses. Alternatively, if your Student ID is missing, an Unofficial Enrollment Verification plus one other current form of picture identification (e.g. California ID, California driver’s license, or a current passport) will be accepted.
College employees must complete an MLK Library Card Application and show a valid LACC Cub Card ID for Faculty or Staff in order to obtain a library card.

- 2-Hour Reserve Textbooks: 1 textbook at a time (in-library use only).
- 7-Day Reserve Materials: 1 item at a time.
If no other user has placed a hold over your book, you are allowed to renew up to two times. To renew a book, sign on to your OneSearch account or visit the Library in person.
Library materials kept past their due date are subject to the following fine schedule.
- 2-Hour Reserve Textbooks: $1.00 per hour up to $100.00
- Reserve Materials: $1.00 per day up to $60.00
All library users are responsible for lost library materials. The replacement policy is as follows.
- Circulating Books: Replacement cost of a book.
- 2-Hour Reserve Textbooks: Current price of the item.
- 7-Day Reserve Materials: Current price of the item.
Please report damage to the person at the Circulation Desk. Items which the Library judges to have been damaged by the borrower shall be evaluated by the Circulation/Periodicals Department and repair or replacement fees will be assessed based on the extent of the damage.
Students with outstanding fines or fees greater than $5.00 will not be allowed Library circulation privileges. If fines or fees are not paid, students’ records will be placed on hold, and this will prevent any Admissions Offices processing, including, but not limited to, future registration, issuing of grades, and graduation from the college.
Holds can be removed immediately upon return of overdue materials and/or payment of fines or replacement of fees.
