Workshops
Our workshops are designed to help students with a range of skills necessary for success in college. Taught by faculty from the Department of English and ESL, workshops are held multiple times each week online and in-person at the Writing Support Center and ESL Lab. Workshops are offered during the fall and spring semesters.
Workshop Types
Here are the types of workshops we offer:
Writing workshops introduce students to fundamentals of the writing process, including brainstorming, drafting, organizing, and revising.
Study skills workshops provide assistance with technical skills such as accessing Canvas, using Microsoft Office and essay formatting as well as study skills such as notetaking.
Reading workshops provide students with tools for comprehension and retention of college readings, including locating main ideas and supporting details, annotating, and building vocabulary.
Grammar workshops cover some of the most common grammar and sentence structure issues, including fragments and run-ons, parallel structure, and sentence clarity.
Documentation workshops provide an introduction to the fundamentals of documentation styles. Workshops are available for MLA, APA, and CSE (scientific) documentation styles.
Personal essay workshops provide tips and resources for students working on scholarship or application essays.
Conversation Club workshops are opportunities for students in ESL classes to practice speaking skills in a small group setting. Each meeting focuses on a topic for conversation and a grammar skill. All are welcome for these fun sessions!
