Fees
Tuition at LACC is $46 per unit for California residents. That means that a degree from the LACC Online Academy costs as little as $2,760*!

You May Be Eligible for Financial Aid
If you enroll in the online academy you may be eligible to receive funding from the same programs that are available to students that attend classes on campus. If you satisfy all eligibility criteria you will be eligible to receive financial aid when you enroll in the first class. Below are federal and state programs that are available.
As you advance through the program your eligibility increases. The information shown below reflects the programs and awards for which you might be eligible.
Federal Pell Grants are usually awarded only to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor's or a professional degree. (In some cases, however, a student enrolled in a post-baccalaureate teacher certification program might receive a Federal Pell Grant.)
Award Amounts:
Students may receive up to $5,960 in the 2018-2019 academic year
Lifetime eligibility:
A student may receive a Pell Grant for no more than 12 full-time semesters or its equivalent.
Students who will receive Federal Pell Grants and have the most financial need will receive FSEOGs first. The FSEOG does not need to be repaid. The maximum award at Los Angeles City College is $500.
You may be eligible to receive the Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant if:
- You are not eligible for a Federal Pell Grant on the basis of your Expected Family Contribution, but
- Meet the remaining Federal Pell Grant eligibility requirements, and
- Your parent or guardian was a member of the U.S. armed forces and died as a result of military service performed in Iraq or Afghanistan after the events of 9/11, and
- You were under 24 years old or enrolled in college at least part-time at the time of your parent’s or guardian’s death.
Federal Work-Study provides part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses. The program encourages community service work and work related to the student’s course of study.
The U.S. Department of Education has two federal student loan programs:
- The William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program is the largest federal student loan program. Under this program, the U.S. Department of Education is your lender. There are four types of Direct Loans available:
- Direct Subsidized Loans are loans made to eligible undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need to help cover the costs of higher education at a college or career school.
- Direct Unsubsidized Loans are loans made to eligible undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, but in this case, the student does not have to demonstrate financial need to be eligible for the loan.
- Direct Consolidation Loans allow you to combine all of your eligible federal student loans into a single loan with a single loan servicer.
Awards provide low-income California residents with a living allowance and assistance with tuition and fees. Most eligible students receive an allowance of up to $1,672 for books and living expenses.
Awards provide low-income California residents with help paying training costs. This $1,097 award is for books, tools and equipment.
Waives the enrollment fees for eligible California residents. Open to all Full Time First Time students.
Application for Financial Aid
If you need financial aid to help with your expenses you should complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) today! The application for the 2018-2019 academic year became available on October 1, 2017. Make sure to do your 2018-2019 FAFSA and complete the financial aid process as soon as it is available - check the "To do list" on your Student Portal for updates to ensure that your financial aid will in place for Fall 2018. Use the steps below to apply for financial aid.
- Apply online at FAFSA on the web.
- On the Student Portal check your "To do list" for any items that may be required to process your application.
- Activate the Bank Mobile refund preference, you will receive instructions in the mail or in your student email once the financial aid office receives your FAFSA and you become an active student. This is a one-time only process.
- Check your award status in the LACCD Student Information System.
Students that meet AB-540 eligibility criteria are able to apply for financial aid from the state of California. This includes Cal Grants and fee waivers for students attending California Community Colleges. Apply online using the California Dream Application.
