Welcome to the LACC Social Sciences Department
We are an intellectually diverse group of faculty members committed to educating students who come to our college with a wide range of abilities. We commit ourselves to lower and upper division instruction across the social sciences, with our major strengths in African-American studies, Chicano studies, Asian-American studies, Anthropology, Economics, History, Political Science, and Sociology.
We offer degree programs in Political Science and a certificate program in African-American Studies
At City College, we truly believe that we are doing the work of the people.
Mission Statement
The LACC Social Science Department's primary mission is to facilitate the development of students from all walks of life so that they may know the true nature of man's place on earth. We primarily construct our instruction with an emphasis toward transdisciplinarity as a means to address the universal nature of knowledge acquisition.
Our secondary goal is to teach students three essential critical thinking skills (outcomes): analysis, evaluation and inference. We do this so that our students gain the confidence to live richer lives and that they may transfer or seek employment in their chosen career. We are committed to alternative methods of instruction delivery, but challenge our students through traditional methods of instruction that are new to many of our first-time college population.
