Current Research

The Los Angeles City College Department of Chemistry is conducting two continuously publishable research projects. The first project deals with novel antibiotics and antifungals, while the second project is exploring hydrogen storage solutions.

The Chemistry & Earth Sciences Department at LACC has started collaboration with UT San Antonio and UCLA to study Silver Lipoate Clusters. Our studies are focused on developing synthetic methodologies that enable the self-assembly of the silver clusters. While silver is known for antimicrobial properties, our goals are to bind beta-lactam (penicillin) based molecules that further enhance microbiological activities.

The Chemistry & Earth Sciences Department at LACC has also been working on Copper Hydride clusters as potential energy storage solutions.

All research is supervised by two adjunct faculty and one fulltime faculty and provides challenges similar to four-year research institutions. Students that have completed their chemistry classes including Chemistry 211 at LACC are eligible to apply and participate in this publishable and cutting edge research.
