Welcome to the LACC Life Sciences Department

The Life Sciences Department is composed of a diverse faculty and staff, with various cultural, educational, and professional backgrounds. Working together, our faculty enhance the curriculum by incorporating our experiences and expertise in biological and clinical fields. Many of our courses are pre-requisites for students in non-biological programs such as Kinesiology, Radiology, Pharmacology, and Nursing.

Life Sciences disciplines include Anatomy, Biology, Physiology, Microbiology, Genetics, Zoology, and Botany.

About our Classes

Students considering careers in health and medicine are required to take courses in the Biology/Anatomy discipline. Many health and allied health programs (e.g. Radiologic Technology, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy) require Anatomy and Physiology. Some programs, Nursing for example, also require Microbiology. Students in non-health care related majors can also benefit from a grounding in these areas. Additionally, understanding basic biological principles can help you live a healthier life and better understand diseases, medical treatments, and medical breakthroughs.

All LACC Life Sciences classes are UC and CSU transferable.

Mission Statement

The Life Sciences Department’s goal is to provide all students the opportunity to explore the science of life and to complete general education requirements in the natural sciences. We also prepare students for transfer to four-year programs in the biological sciences and for acceptance into various allied health programs. This preparation may lead to careers in teaching, nursing, medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant, and many other fields. We are committed to providing our students with the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful career path and to nurture a life-long curiosity of the natural and biological world.
