English Placement Tiers and Support Options


All students are eligible to enroll in ENGLISH 101, a course that meets graduation and transfer requirements.

In addition to ENGLISH 101, if you are concerned about your skill levels in English you should speak with a counselor about the following support options that are available to you:

  • ENGLISH 108 or TUTORING 001: each option provides you with access to English Writing Center services, including individualized instruction with tutors and faculty.
  • ENGLISH “BOOT CAMPS”: this option offers you a concentrated review of the entry-level skills that are needed for English 101.

In addition to ENGLISH 101, it is RECOMMENDED that you also enroll in ENGLISH 104, a three-unit supplemental course that will help you further develop the reading and writing skills you need to do well in English 101.

English As A Second Language (ESL)

Please note that placement tests for course placement into ESL courses will no longer be administered.
