Career Field Trips & Job Shadowing Experiences

With these opportunities, students learn about a job by walking through the work day as a shadow to employees in that environment.Although there are countless resources in our Career Center that help students obtain a clear picture of various careers, nothing can match first-hand immersion in real working environments. Career field trips are brief job shadowing experiences that encourage our LACC students to observe various work sites where they have the opportunity to speak with professionals in those environments. With these opportunities, students learn about a job by walking through the work day as a shadow to employees in that environment.

The Career Field Trip & Job Shadowing experience is usually a one-day, unpaid exposure to the workplace in an occupational area of interest to the student. Students can experience various work environments and learn about necessary occupational skills, the value of professional training, career trends, job outlook and demand, and potential employment options that accompany various careers.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, high school dropouts and socially disadvantaged individuals can develop the skills that employers need through job shadowing opportunities.
