What Is Title IX?

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a Federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any education program or activity that receives federal funding. Sex discrimination includes, but is not limited to, sexual harassment, sexual battery, sexual assault, and rape that are so severe, pervasive, and objectively offensive that the occurrance effectively bars the survivor’s access to an educational opportunity or benefit.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Title IX Program is to protect all Los Angeles City College’s community members from discrimination or harassment based upon gender as outlined in Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 to the 1964 Civil Rights Act that states: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." Los Angeles City College prohibits any type of unlawful discrimination under state and federal law.
