New Program Participants

Please call the college's CalWORKs program at (323) 953-4000 ext. 2599 to make an appointment. You will be required to show verification of current benefits and your current class schedule. If you are not currently enrolled in a class, our Counselors will assist you in choosing classes during your intake appointment.

  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher
  • Meet the 20/30/35 hour county-approved program of activities
  • Comply with the Department of Social Services and CalWORKs/GAIN guidelines

The first appointment in the CalWORKs department is very important. You must bring to the office any current documentation that will help the counselors with your case. You must bring:

  • Verification of Benefits - we can also assist you in obtaining this document
  • A GN6006 form - if provided by your GAIN Service Worker
  • Any related county paperwork that needs to be completed by CalWORKs

The first appointment will take approximately one hour. Please check in at the CalWORKs office at least ten minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time. During your appointment with the counselor/advisor, the focus will be on your individual situation and case, and your professional, academic, and personal goals.

If you have not applied to Los Angeles City College yet, you may do so prior to coming in for your appointment online at: CCCApply - In addition, you will need to apply for Financial Aid assistance to obtain the Board of Governors Fee Waiver (BOG). If you qualify, the fee waiver will waive your tuition fees. You will most likely only be responsible for a small student service fee and health fee, which may be reimbursed to you.

Once you arrive to our office you will complete our CalWORKs Intake Application or you may complete it here prior to your appointment and email to:
