April 10, 2023

By LACC

Good Monday morning,

Welcome back to those of you who were off last week. I hope everyone enjoyed a peaceful Easter weekend and experienced a relaxing and/or fun Spring Break. We begin late start classes today.

Our annual English/ESL Department writing contest is upon us. Students are invited to enter the English/ESL Department writing contest. The annual writing contest is for all students enrolled at the college during the spring semester of each school year. The English/ESL Department awards first, second, third and honorable mention scholarship prizes in the categories of short story, poetry, and ESL writing. Students must follow and adhere to the guidelines for each contest to be eligible. The deadline for Spring 2023 is Tuesday, April 18th by 12pm. Winners will be notified in early May and should plan on attending the Awards Ceremony scheduled at the end of the Spring semester on May 25th. For guidelines, please go to: https://www.lacitycollege.edu/academics/pathways/lhc/english-esl-dept/writing-contest.

We are still booking media segments for Hispanic TV outlets that will air in the next few weeks. I encourage everyone to see if they have slightly used or new items to donate and bring them to Cubby’s in the Student Union, second floor, Monday through Thursday from 12noon to 2pm. You can also donate money. Please go to the Foundation webpage and click on the “Donate” button, put in the amount you want to donate, and indicate that it is for Cubby’s Closet. Also, please remember that our home insecure students need toiletries, so, if you stay at hotels, please bring home the room shampoo, soap, and body washes to donate.

Here are links to our recent media coverage for Cubby’s Closet:

Today and tomorrow we will be filming the Korean realty TV show “Korean Lunch Tray” also known as “K-Lunch” at various locations on campus. We will let you know when to tune in via Netflix to watch the episodes.

We will also be hosting Black Success Week #TheBlackHour from April 24 to April 28. The daily virtual webinar offers practitioners an outlet to discuss topics that are important to Black student success. We will be sending out an email to register for the webinars.

Also, mark your calendars for our upcoming World Music Festival Series featuring Orkestar Mézé on April 25 at 7:30pm.
