This Week @ City - February 27, 2023

February 27, 2023

By LACC

Good Monday morning,

This week begins Week 4 of the Spring 2023 semester. We enter March this week. Believe it or not, in another week, March 12, it will be daylight savings and we will move our clocks forward. Spring is in the air – but you would not know it with the temperatures we are experiencing right now. The rain is welcomed after so many years of severe drought, but these freezing temperatures and snow everywhere! It was beautiful seeing all of the white-topped mountains from my seat on the train this morning. Rain and cold again this week. Bundle up!

We end our celebration of Black History Month with a luncheon tomorrow, Tuesday, February 28, from 11:30am to 3pm in the Student Union Multipurpose Room with  local South LA renowned artist Michael Massenburg. I hope you can join us during some of that time.

Our accreditor, the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) will have a small team visit us all day this Wednesday, March 1 and the morning of Thursday, March 2. There will be an “Open Forum” with the team members on Wednesday, March 1 from 12noon to 1pm in Student Union Multipurpose Room. We will have pizza for those who attend. Be sure to RSVP so we have a headcount. We will also have a Town Hall on the accreditation visit outcome the afternoon of Thursday, March 2 at 3:15 in the Student Union Multipurpose Room. We will have cookies, hot chocolate, and coffee. We will send out an RSVP for a headcount as well. Please join us.

March is Women’s History Month and we will have our districtwide Annual Women’s History Month Afternoon Tea on Wednesday, March 29, from 2pm to 4pm. The theme this year is “Women Who Tell Our Stories.” We have invited our four LACCD Trustees who are women to join us as our special keynote speakers this year. There are four women who now have the majority vote on our LACCD Board of Trustees. I am very proud to host and celebrate this historic time.
