Good Tuesday Morning,

This week begins Beat the Rush Week! Next week our Spring 2024 semester begins. We are working diligently to bring students back and get new students started. There will be extended hours in Student Services Offices from January 29 to February 3, Monday to Thursday, 8am to 7pm and Friday 8am to 4pm.

Students can visit the Welcome Center for assistance and find classes online.  Please be sure to reach out to your students to make sure they register for spring classes.

Last Tuesday we held a website training/work session with more than 50 faculty and staff. Thank you to all the website editors and contributors who attended. If you need any assistance with your website you can contact IT directly at @email or email Shaena Engle at @email.

The LACC Foundation is offering Spring 2024 resources for students, including textbook vouchers and laptop support, applications available on January 22 with a February 20 deadline and scholarships, applications available February 5 with a March 5 deadline.

Thursday, February 1

Spring Symposium

8:15 am to 12:30pm, Lunch 12:30 to 2pm

Student Union MPR

This Thursday is our Spring Symposium. A morning gathering will take place at 8:15am in HH6 Lobby Upper Level and breakout session A will begin at 9am. Breakout Session B will begin at 11 am and lunch will be held at 12:30pm in the Student Union MPR. Most breakout sessions will be held in Holmes Hall, faculty can register in the VCR.

Student Services and Administrative staff are invited to attend The LACC Website – Making Your Webpages Stand Out breakout session at 9am in Holmes Hall 104. Registration through the VCR.

LACC VAMA Fabricated Truths Opening Reception

LACC DH Gallery

LACC’s VAMA Gallery will host Fabricated Truths, an exhibit by LA based artists Mike Norice and Macha Suzuk, on February 7.  The exhibit will run through March 7. An opening reception will be held On February 7 from 5 to 8pm at LACC’s DH Gallery.

LACC Dental Prosthetic Tech Dept Open House

On February 7, LACC’s Dental Prosthetic Technology Department will hold an Open House on February 7 from 1 to 2pm in Holmes Hall 6.

 

Monday, February 12

LACC Hosts LA County District Attorney Candidate Forum

4 to 5:30pm

LACC Student Union

LACC, the LA City Attorney Coalition, the League of Women Voters of Greater Los Angeles, ACLU-SoCal, NAMI Greater Los Angeles and Nami Urban LA will host a Los Angeles County District Attorney Candidate Forum on Monday, February 12 from 4 to 5:30pm in the Student Union. Candidates Debra Archuleta, Jeff Chemerinsky, George Gascon, Jonathon Hatami, Nathan Hochman, Dan Kapelovitz, Lloyd “Bobcat” Masson, John Mckinney, David Milton, Craig Mitchell, Maria Ramirez and Eric Siddall will discuss their campaigns for this open seat. Rita Zwern, member of the League of Women Voters of Greater Los Angeles, will moderate the event.
