This Week @ City - January 9th

January 9, 2023

By LACC

Good Monday morning,

I hope everyone had a restful holiday break. Welcome to 2023. A year of change and transition. As I prepare to retire on June 30, I will work to have as smooth a transition as possible. The LACC President position should post in the next week or two. A committee has formed to screen applicants. The Chancellor will visit the classified staff at their retreat on January 27 and the faculty at the Symposium on February 2. I am already making a list of everything I will miss… and a few things I will not miss, such as getting up at 4 a.m. I look forward to the work we will do together for the next six months.

Register Now for Spring 2023

Registration is in full swing for spring classes. Students can visit the Welcome Center for assistance and find classes at https://www.lacitycollege.edu/academics/class-schedules.

Camus Closed January 16

Next Monday the campus will be closed in honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.  We are working on a day of service in honor of Dr. King that will likely occur on Friday, January 20 or Saturday, January 21. Stay tuned for details.

Update to COVID Check-in Policy

Our daily Cleared4 System COVID check in is no longer required and we have finished housing our Biocept COVID testing center on campus. Effective January 1, 2023, vaccination and testing requirements will remain a requirement as a condition of employment. The only changes are the platform for providing proof of vaccination and the testing for those with an approved exemption. Current employees who have already uploaded proof of vaccination to the Cleared-4 platform do not need to do anything. Existing employees who have been granted an exemption from vaccination for either a medical or religious reason still need to test weekly. The only change in the process is that Biocept will no longer provide testing.

Employees with an exemption will continue to be required to test weekly and may do so with antigen tests. Employees with exemptions are not required to report the results of weekly tests unless they test positive. Employees who are required to test weekly can obtain antigen tests at AD 218.

As I begin my transition to retirement, I have stepped down from my position on the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Board and the Los Angeles Promise Zone Leadership Council so that more of my time and effort is spent at LACC. I will continue to serve on the California Community Colleges Chief Executive Officers Board and the Board Co-chair of the Los Angeles Regional Consortium for Strong Workforce. I am not planning any substantial time off – just a day here and there. It will be a busy year for us.

BELIEVE. ACHIEVE. SUCCEED. A year of change begins.
