Good Monday morning,

Time is flying by and we are now just a few weeks from spring break.  I hope everyone remembered to set their clocks forward yesterday for daylight savings. We have a lot of activities on campus in the next few weeks.

Today we are hosting Korean variety food show JTBC, a cooking reality competition shown in Korea. The theme will be K-lunch. They will be filming in a few weeks on campus. This is great global exposure for our campus.

This week we will be filming a segment for Spectrum on Cubby’s Closet. I encourage everyone to see if they have slightly used or new items to donate and bring them to Cubby’s in the Student Union, second floor, Monday through Thursday from noon to 2pm. You can also donate money, please go to the Foundation webpage and click on the “Donate” button, put in the amount you want to donate, and indicate that it is for Cubby’s Closet. Also, please remember that our home insecure students need toiletries, so, if you stay at hotels, please bring home the room shampoo, soap and body washes to donate. We will be opening an extension to Cubby’s offering frozen food and staple items shortly.

Congratulations to our two students, Pau Brunet-Fuertes and Syeda Waniya Hasan who were named semifinalists for the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. They are among 459 semifinalists chosen from a pool of more than 1,700 applicants.

Sr. Staff will be attending a special convening at Cal Poly Pomona tomorrow for community college leaders to discuss challenges and successes, and the path forward for our transfer students.

March is Women’s History Month and we will have our districtwide Annual Women’s History Month Afternoon Tea on Wednesday, March 29, from 2pm to 4pm. The theme this year is “Women Who Tell Our Stories.” We have invited our four LACCD Trustees who are women to join us as our special keynote speakers this year. There are four women who now have the majority vote on our LACCD Board of Trustees. I am very proud to host and celebrate this historic time.

Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, March 22 at 2pm when we will host a screening and panel discussion of the film “Free Chol Soo Lee.” More details will be in next week’s message.

Also mark your calendars for March 22 at 12:45pm for a talk and Q & A with Al Rossi, Head of Acting at LACC’s Theatre Academy for more than 20 years.

This month we will also be hosting Midterm Meals offering a free $15 Cub Store credit for the first 500 enrolled students for Friday March 24, Monday March 27, Tuesday March 28, and Wednesday March 29. LACC student ID will be required.
