Spring 2023 - Scholarship Award Opportunities
The English/ESL Department is pleased to announce that students can now apply for our 2023 Scholarship Awards!
Students who meet the necessary qualifications are encouraged to apply!
What kind of Scholarships does the English/ESL Department offer?
- Each spring semester, LACC’s Department of English and ESL offers a number of Scholarship Awards that appeal to our students’ strengths, interests and academic goals.
- The scholarships are designed to encourage a wide range of students to apply, specifically those who want to incorporate the knowledge they have acquired in their English classes in their future careers.
- English and ESL students whose ambitions include teaching, writing, higher-level education, literary studies, and social work that promotes the empowerment of people and communities are all suitable candidates for the scholarships we offer.
What are the steps in the application process?
- This webpage includes all the information needed to apply for any of our scholarships.
- You will see each scholarship and the qualifications of the student who is encouraged to apply.
- Clicking on the scholarships below, you will see two important documents:
- the criteria that the applicant needs to meet in order to apply
- the Scholarship Application Form that the student should print out, fill in, and submit to the English/ESL Department.
- You are required to write an essay and attach it to your application. The topic for the essay can be found near the end of the application form.
- You must attach a copy of your unofficial transcripts to your application.
What is the deadline for submitting the Scholarship Application and what happens next?
- The deadline for submitting your scholarship application and the documents you need to attach is Wednesday, April 26, at 3pm.
- Completed applications should be brought to the front desk in the English/ESL Department in Jefferson Hall 301.
- In addition to the written application requirements, candidates will need to attend an in-person interview on the LACC campus on Friday, May 5th. The in-person interview is a required part of the application process.
- Scholarship winners will be invited to attend the English/ESL Annual Awards Ceremony, which will take place on the evening of May 25th on the third floor of the Student Union Building. This ceremony is a celebration of our students, at which time winners of Scholarship Awards and winners of the Writing Contest are presented with their prizes and congratulated by the college community.
Please consider applying for a scholarship if you meet the requirements listed below! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email Professor Elizabeth Gordon (gordonem@lacitycollege.edu). Good luck!
